WIBTA if I told my daughter to stop being a clean freak?

A Redditor wonders if they’d be in the wrong for asking their daughter to relax her “clean freak” rules when she visits. Despite being married and living on her own, the daughter frequently visits and insists that everyone follow strict cleanliness practices, such as removing shoes, using plates, and avoiding wet floors.

The issue escalates during family gatherings, where she enforces her rules with strangers and family alike, creating tension. The Redditor feels these strict rules make guests uncomfortable and is considering asking her daughter to loosen up a bit. Read the full story below to decide if they’d be wrong for addressing this with her.

‘ WIBTA if I told my daughter to stop being a clean freak?’

My 34 Year old daughter Is married and lives away from home. She comes home every other weekend to Visit and sleeps at my house. Problem is when she comes home she makes everyone be extremely clean.

This includes Making people take off their shoes at the door, Eating with a plate, and staying off wet floors. When people come over to celebrate or get together she will scream at people who do not follow her rules and makes it extremely uncomfortable.

And its not like she only does it to people she knows, She will so it to people she doesn’t know. I would like to ask if I would be the a hole if I asked her to loosen her rules?

Here’s the feedback from the Reddit community:

mdthomas −  Making people take off their shoes at the door, Eating with a plate, and staying off wet floors. So wanting people to use basic manners and avoid trip hazards makes her a clean freak?

None of those things are unreasonable. Unless you prefer to live in a house with wet dirty floors with food all over them?. YWBTA.

StAlvis −  INFO. She comes home every other weekend to Visit and sleeps at my house.. FFS, **_why_**?

most_unusual_ −  …you think using a plate, shoes off at the door and maybe don’t walk on the freshly mopped floors is “clean freak” rules?. … I… And you’re an adult…?. Yes you would be the a**hole.

Trespassingw −  Info: why is she setting her rules in your house?

IrrationalRavioli141 −  There’s no way this is real….right?

Would the Redditor be justified in asking their daughter to relax her rules, or should they respect her desire for cleanliness, even if it causes some tension? How would you balance personal standards with family gatherings in a similar situation? Share your thoughts below!
