Steve Martin And Kermit Face Off In Epic Banjo Battle

While most people recognize Martin for his comedic brilliance and acting skills, few know that he’s also an accomplished bluegrass banjo player. He’s won five Grammy Awards throughout his career, with his first being for comedy in 1977 and his first for music in 2001.

The banjo’s distinctive twang has long been a hallmark of country music, loved by generations of listeners.

Martin’s passion for bluegrass began when he was a child. He recalled, “I fell in love with the four-string banjo … When I was 11, I would go to Disneyland to see the Golden Horseshoe Revue, and there was a four-string banjo player.”

“When I worked at Knott’s Berry Farm, there was a four-string banjo player there, too,” he added, “But, we all know that five is better.”

For years, the banjo has held a special place in the hearts of music lovers, but its popularity soared after the 1972 film Deliverance. One of the standout moments in the movie was a musical showdown between two characters, famously known as “Dueling Banjos.”

Though this catchy song was first introduced in 1955, its popularity didn’t really take off until Deliverance brought it into the spotlight. Afterward, it seemed like everyone wanted to give the tune a try.

While there have been many pretty cool battles between talented banjo players on “Dueling Banjos” before, none seems to compare to the unique battle between comedian Steve Martin and the ever-charming Muppet, Kermit the Frog.

They sat on a log in the middle of a swamp and then Steve kicked off the performance, confidently strumming his banjo. His assured performance took a surprising turn when Kermit the Frog joined in, matching him note for note.

What happened was a playful musical exchange, with Steve leading and Kermit mirroring his melodies with a touch of whimsy. The most exciting moment came when they both launched into a lively duet, their banjos harmonizing in an unforgettable showdown.
