Shy-looking teenage singer Courtney Hadwin stepped onto the America’s Got Talent stage, her nerves evident as she faced the judges. Simon Cowell, Howie Mandel, Mel B, and Heidi Klum didn’t have high expectations for the 13-year-old singer when she auditioned for the show back in 2019.

“Don’t be nervous,” Mel B said, encouraging the girl and hoping to put her at ease after she admitted the nerves were getting to her. “I know this is a big stage and there’s lots of people here. But you’re here for a reason, so go for it and good luck.” What happened next, however, no one saw coming.

The moment Courtney stepped onto the stage, she seemed like any other nervous teenager. But as soon as the music started, everything changed. With an explosive take on Otis Redding’s “Too Hot to Handle,” she unleashed a powerhouse voice that left the judges stunned.

Their jaws dropped as the timid girl transformed into a fearless performer, moving across the stage with the energy and confidence of a seasoned pro. What started as a quiet entrance quickly turned into one of the most unforgettable performances of the night.

The shy teenager channeled the raw energy of a rock legend. Her electrifying performance left the judges stunned, with Howie Mandel so blown away that he slammed the golden buzzer, sending her straight to the quarter-finals. “Oh my gosh, you’re not from this era,” he said, clearly awe-struck, “you’re from a whole different era,” while Simon Cowell couldn’t hide his amazement, “you were this shy little thing when you came out, and then you sing and you’re like a lion.”
