Robert Lincoln, President Lincoln’s eldest son, experienced a very different life from his renowned father. While many children spent their youth toiling in remote log cabins and self-educating, Robert attended Harvard College. Despite his privileged upbringing, his talent is undeniable. He spent much of his career as a lawyer and executive in Chicago, with stints in public service as Secretary of War under Presidents Garfield and Arthur, and as Minister to England in the 1890s.
