Little Girl’s Adorable School Nativity Performance Will Be Cherished Forever
As the holiday season approaches, there’s no better way to kick off the celebrations than with a Christmas classic, especially one that brings the nativity story to life. A school nativity performance is often the perfect way to get into the Christmas spirit. While school nativity performances are common, it’s truly special when the children’s voices are so powerful that they can be heard from miles away.
Take, for example, the unforgettable moment in 1996 when young Ellie Sergeant took center stage during her school’s nativity play. With her spirited rendition of “The Virgin Mary Had A Baby Boy,” Ellie’s exuberance outshone the rest of the cast, making her performance a lasting memory.
Despite only remembering a few of the lyrics, her energy was enough to captivate the audience and leave a smile on everyone’s face.
More than two decades later, the video of Ellie’s impromptu performance, shared by her sister Hannah, has since become a beloved holiday tradition for many.
Viewed by millions across various platforms, it’s a heartwarming clip that continues to resonate with fans. Featured on BBC Radio 4’s ‘Today’ program, Ellie reflects on the moment that catapulted her into the spotlight, joking about how she once saw the video as “three minutes of embarrassment.”
Ellie, of Stratford Upon Avon, shared, “Mum was really the instigator of the whole disaster that was my nativity play, as she sat right at the back and asked for me to sing as loudly as possible.” She added, “The ever obedient (and slightly oblivious) daughter, I complied with her request and sang my heart out.”
Now a law graduate at Wiggin LLP, Ellie has come to embrace the clip, which has grown into a festive favorite. She feels happy as the joy it brings to viewers year after year.
