‘ AITAH for enjoying a new experience my girlfriend suggested?’
I (20M) have been in a relationship with my wonderful girlfriend Nana (21F) for a couple of years. We were really close as kids and started dating around our first year of high school. If you asked either of us about our relationship, we’d tell you it’s great.
That is, except for some aspects of our personal life. Don’t get me wrong, it’s good, but Nana often likes to try new things, which can sometimes be a bit overwhelming for me.
Recently, she proposed we switch roles in a specific way, trying something new and different in our dynamic. I went along with it, and to my surprise, I enjoyed the experience a lot, and I thought she did too.
A few days passed, and she started becoming distant, avoiding even small gestures like hugs or kisses. Concerned, I decided to talk to her. During our conversation, she asked, “Does this mean you’re not attracted to me in the way I thought?” I was completely taken aback but reassured her that my feelings for her hadn’t changed and that I still cared about her deeply.
Despite my efforts to explain, she told me we needed a break so she could process her feelings. I respected her request and gave her space, but it’s been a week now, and I’m worried. Did I make a mistake by embracing what she suggested?
Here’s how people reacted to the post:
Unusual-restaurant14 − NTA, she suggested it and then got upset when you enjoyed it? That seems unfair. Was she trying to test you?
Free_Guarantee_2561 − It’s strange that she wanted to try something and then felt upset when you participated wholeheartedly. That doesn’t seem right.
Lakeside_001 − Sometimes, people have irrational thoughts when processing new experiences. It might help to have another honest conversation with her about this.
Final-Rice6054 − Communication is key here. If she feels conflicted, try to help her understand that her proposal doesn’t change who you are or your feelings for her.
Excellent_Star_153 − Relationships thrive on mutual understanding. It’s puzzling that she initiated this and now feels uncomfortable with the outcome.
Sencifouy − NTA. This sounds like a misunderstanding of expectations. Be patient and try to help her see things from a different perspective.
True_Bandicoot2942 − It almost seems like she might be looking for a reason to distance herself, which isn’t fair to you if it’s based on her own uncertainties.
Alert-Raspberry1140 − It’s important to break down stereotypes and be open-minded. If this continues to bother her, it might be worth seeking advice from a counselor or a trusted friend.
kgetit − This could be a case of mismatched expectations. Hopefully, with time and communication, you’ll both come to a better understanding.
