Watch Talented Family Rock Band With A Wonderful Tribute To Gary Moore Playing ‘Still Got The Blues’!

The RUMPUS (Rumpus Band) is a talented rock band consisting of four young members (all from the same family) from Auckland, New Zealand. They cover classic rock guitar-based music and perform both covers and original songs. The band’s music is described as guitar-oriented rock with an upbeat, soulful pop twist and vocal harmonies.

When talking about this video, the band said, “This is “Still Got the Blues” by Gary Moore. This is one of the songs that we perform and video live in our rumpus room. We have a big list of possible songs that we might play and this is a song that Daniel said he really wanted to do. We really love the song because of the emotion in it and Daniel loves the feel of the lead guitar and really wanted the challenge of playing it. We have slowly been getting our recordings better and we’ve ended up putting all instruments though a mixer and then going directly into our zoom recorder. We have to try to get all levels perfect when we play it as we can’t control individual instrument volumes afterwards. We think it worked out really well though :)”.

About The Rumpus Band And Their Musical Journey

The family’s musical journey began with their father, Kevin, teaching them individually on acoustic classical guitars. They later learned from online tutorials and played in duos, busking at local stages and even touring Europe. The RUMPUS band officially formed in late 2020, incorporating electric instruments and expanding their repertoire.

The band members have been playing their respective instruments for different durations, with Daniel and Matthew on guitar for six years, Ashley and Hannah on guitar for four years, and the latter two picking up drums and bass 18 months ago. All members started singing when the RUMPUS band was formed.

Their main musical influences include Pink Floyd, Dire Straits, Gary Moore, The Eagles, and Metallica. The parents, Kevin and Carmel, introduced them to classic rock, and the band appreciates the emotional depth and soul in this genre. The RUMPUS band performs covers of iconic songs, such as “Still Got the Blues” by Gary Moore and “Nothing Else Matters” by Metallica, showcasing their musical skills.

Notable performances include their two-year travel across NZ and Europe, where they busked in tourist spots. The RUMPUS band enjoys playing at their local community stage and participating in the NZ Rockquest with their original songs.

Apart from the band, the siblings also engage in duos – ‘TOE JAM’ with Daniel and Matthew and ‘DOUBLE WHAMMY’ with Ashley and Hannah. They go busking and perform acoustic covers of various songs in smaller venues.

The band’s most interesting moment was almost getting arrested for underage busking in Segovia, Spain, due to local laws regarding earning money as kids. Despite this, the RUMPUS band continues to share their love for classic rock through their performances, showcasing their passion for music.
