Swiss Singer Nemo Won The 68th Eurovision Song Contest With “The Code”
Switzerland has won the 68th Eurovision Song Contest, concluding a thrilling and sometimes chaotic competition. The 24-year-old Swiss singer, Nemo, who identifies as non-binary, entered the event as the bookmakers’ third favorite. However, Nemo managed to surpass the frontrunners, Croatia and Israel, with an electrifying performance of their song, “The Code.”
This operatic, drum’n’bass-powered track dominated the jury vote, which accounts for half of the total score. “The Code” is a unique blend of midnight dance pop, divine quirkiness, and cinematic flair. It features otherworldly high notes and sharp rap sections that echo the lyrical intensity of Eminem. Nemo’s performance captivated both the jury and the audience, securing Switzerland’s victory in Eurovision 2024.

Despite some negative opinions claiming Nemo didn’t deserve the win, many viewers from around the world have raised their voices to support him.
“I don’t understand why so many people are complaining. The song is very good in terms of rhythm, vocalization and lyrics. Nemo did the entire performance without needing background dancers, and their song has a meaning,” one YouTube viewer wrote. “If the only problem with their victory are their clothes or their identity, that reminds me of when people insulted Freddy Mercury for who he was (queer and homosexual) and not because of his music. I’m not comparing Nemo to Freddy in terms of musical genius, but the situation of rejecting that they won just because of who they are is very similar.
Another added, “What a talent to sing in an opera, rap and rock combo telling a life story! Wow. A well-deserved win.”
