Chris Mark Castle – A Fairytale-Like Dwelling In Connecticut

Chris Mark Castle, whose appearance is reminiscent of European castles from centuries past, is located in Woodstock, about 40 miles from Hartford.

The castle’s construction began in 2003, spearheaded by owner Christopher Mark, and was finished in 2010.

The castle’s interior features furniture imported from Europe over 30 years, adding to its authentic feel, shared by Christopher’s oldest daughter, Christina Mark.

The huge 18,000-square-foot home became popular online in 2022 when Christina Mark started sharing videos of herself inside and posting them on TikTok.

Built for Princesses

Christopher Mark built this Gothic-style fairytale-like dwelling castle to fulfill his daughters’ dreams of living like princesses.

The family, with ancestral ties to Ireland, moved into the castle when Christina was around seven or eight years old. Christopher and his daughters often dress up as royalty.

Architecture

The castle spans 18,777 square feet and features 20 rooms, including nine bedrooms, seven full bathrooms, and three half bathrooms.

Its towers rise 126 feet into the sky, providing a striking view over the 30-acre Potter Pond.

The property includes unique features such as a moat and an underground dungeon-like area. Stained glass windows are used throughout, adding to the castle’s majestic ambiance.

The castle boasts 12 fireplaces, adding warmth and character to its vast interior.

While it currently sits on 75 acres, the entire lot spans over 400 acres and includes the picturesque 30-acre Potter Pond.

Destroyed by Fire

In 2020, Christopher Mark was seen walking camels outside the castle, adding to its eccentric charm.

However, the property has faced some challenges in recent years. In February 2023, a 150-year-old house on the property was destroyed by fire, and another fire occurred in March.

Fortunately, these incidents did not impact the castle itself.
