The Inspiring Story Of A Boy Who Beat Cancer And Achieved Academic Excellence Despite Health Struggles

Kaitlin Burge, a mom whose son had cancer, shared a powerful photo three years ago. In the photo, her son was comforted by his older sister during a chemo session. Today, after a long and hard fight, little Beckett has beaten his cancer and is doing great in school. He even became one of the top students.

Beckett was only 2 years old when he found out he had acute lymphoblastic leukemia on April 25, 2018. He and his sister, Aubrey, who were very close in age, went from having fun at home to staying in a cold hospital room together. Aubrey, who was 4 years old then, saw her brother suffer to walk and play.

It was a tough situation for everyone, and the family was not prepared for it. But Kaitlin said they stuck together, supported each other, and took it one day at a time.

Kaitlin said Aubrey had a hard time during those 35 days. Beckett, her best friend, was in the hospital, and she didn’t really get what was going on, only that her brother was sick.

The whole family had to face a lot of challenges during that time. Kaitlin wrote in the caption of the photo above, “I watched my only son go through so much and still smile.”

But this hard time also made Aubrey more independent, as she watched her best friend and brother go through something no sibling should ever see.

Beckett had a rough journey, but he came out victorious. After two years of pain, suffering, and never giving up, Beckett is free from cancer and back to school. Kaitlin said, “He is feeling great, he is done with treatment, and is back to school.”

Beckett finished his last treatment on August 8, 2021, and he’s now in perfect health. Today, he’s 8 years old and he still has his 9-year-old sister by his side. Their bond, which got even stronger during Beckett’s illness, is still strong.

“Beckett has conquered cancer like a brave little soldier. But he still has some new challenges to face. After his treatment, he was diagnosed with ADHD.

He also has to see an oncologist for his headaches. On the other hand, he also has heart racing and chest pains.

“We saw a cardiologist for a second opinion who confirmed his PVCs but has put a monitor on him for 30 days to track his heart pattern and symptoms. It’s a waiting game, but at least it’s a step closer to figuring out what’s going on with little man,” Kaitlin said.

Beckett is now in third grade. He is doing well in school, despite all the new challenges. He has been thriving since he went back to school. He loves math and spelling. His mom said how proud she is of how hardworking Beckett is in school.

“Straight A’s for this guy! I’m so proud of him. He was at a disadvantage; he missed almost all of kindergarten and half of first grade. He’s thriving in second grade. We were advised to hold him back in kindergarten again per his doctor because of what he went through, and we opted not to. I knew what he was capable of,” wrote Kaitlin.

“He was struggling, and it was obvious. He had the best 1st-grade teacher and an amazing 2nd-grade teacher who really worked hard with him. He’s so smart. He loves math and spelling. Beckett, you continue to amaze me. You’re destined for great things,” she continued.

Beckett is not only doing great in class but also in sports. He won the ball game at his school.

“Another win in the books for the Yankees! Beckett got his first hit of the season, got on first base, and won the game! He stayed out of the dirt the entire game, was focused, and played left field, shortstop, and third base! I’m so proud,” Kaitlin said.

Beckett’s journey was very hard, but we know that many others are going through the same thing. When we asked Kaitlin to give some advice to those who face similar challenges, she said they should stay positive, take it one day at a time, and ask for help when they need it. She said this is just one part of life, and they can always find the strength to keep going.

Beckett’s amazing journey showed us how strong and brave he and his family are. Kaitlin’s words of encouragement remind us that challenges are not the end of our story. With courage and support, we can overcome anything that comes our way.
