Baby Gorilla Has Unique Patch of Pigment on Her Finger, Making It Look Human-Like

Some animals were born with distinctive features, making them stand out from the crowd. Their skin doesn’t look the same as others of the species, for instance. This difference may bring disadvantages for them – easily be spotted by predators or hard to adapt to the environment.

That’s the case of the young gorilla in this story. She has a unique patch of pigment on her finger that looks human-like. It is quite understandable when considering that we, humans, are closely related to gorillas. Both have fingerprints and toeprints, and fingernails and toenails.

Some people think that the little girl suffers from vitiligo, a long-term skin condition characterized by patches of the skin losing its pigment.

But the answer is no. The Zoo Atlanta where the baby gorilla is currently living said that she got that unique finger patch since her birth. They thought that it was just a cool birthmark as it had never changed over the years.

Interestingly, the young gorilla is such a cool girl. The zoo staff often see her barking at her mom and others to get a prime spot for food and juice.

She is also playful and a bit mischievous as she rides piggyback on her brother and sisters.
