AITAH for throwing away a**oholic drinks when someone was getting them for me?
An 18-year-old woman went to a concert with two male friends in a VIP area, despite not having the proper wristband. A stranger pulled them into the VIP section and started buying her alcoholic drinks, even though she’s not allowed to drink.
She didn’t want to offend him, so she accepted the drinks but didn’t drink them, instead leaving them behind, where staff threw them away. Eventually, the drinks became excessive, and she started feeling bad for not stopping the guy from buying them or telling him she wasn’t drinking. Was she wrong for not speaking up? ‘ AITAH for throwing away a**oholic drinks when someone was getting them for me?’
I (18F) went to a concert with 2 guy friends (23M&24M). Ive never been to a concert like it before, it was like a night club in the front with like couches and stuff for vips and then it was roped off and there was like a normal standing area where everyone else was. If you were over 21 you got a wrist band, and vips got a different color wrist band.
We weren’t vips so we were in the normal area but right at the front. After the dj was done and the main person was about to come on, some guy came over and grabbed my arm to go into the vip section and I grabbed my friends hands. He took us past the security guy and he just like nodded and let us threw without the bands.
I was kind of nervous in the vip area because I didn’t want to get in trouble, but no one said anything. The guy that pulled us through kept going up to the bar and getting us drinks (I’m not allowed to have but only drank a little bit). Like it got excessive, He seriously probably gave me like 10 beers and 3 mixed drinks.
I got to the point where I was just sitting them behind me without drinking it at all and the worker person would come throw them away, they even tapped my shoulder a few times and asked if I was done and I just nodded. The mixed drinks were disgusting so I took like a sip of one and put it down.
I feel like I should have told him to stop because I don’t think he even realized I wasn’t drinking them, him and my friends were finishing them though and they really over did it. He probably spent like $100 on my drinks and I kind of feel bad you know. Am I wrong for not telling him to stop, or not even saying that I wasn’t allowed to have them at all? The only place they were checking the bands was the bar itself but I feel like we could have got in a lot of trouble.
Here’s what Redditors had to say:
calacmack − You were smart to control your drinking. You should have told them that you were underage when you were being provided drinks. But, imo, it was equally the server’s/buyer’s/management’s responsibility to check your age and refuse to serve you. Their behavior was unconscionable. BTW, where were your friends when all this was going on? Regarding your specific question, NTA.
OnlyThePhantomKnows − NTA. First rule. Never accept drinks from anyone (even cokes) Don’t even take a sip. Second rule: Get a lid for your drink so no one can add stuff. Piece of saranwrap, hair tie, and a straw work.
You’re not an a**hole, but even drinking a little was a risk. Look up date rape drugs for reasons. You’re obviously hot because he dragged you up front. You need to be smart.
Born-Horror-5049 − LOL that dude’s a predator. NTA.
ElianaWright − I don’t think you’re wrong for not saying anything right away. But maybe next time, just letting the person know you’re not allowed to drink would be the safer option. You weren’t trying to be rude, just trying to stay out of trouble.
sacredblasphemies − NTA. Also, even if it WAS legal, I’d be cautious of accepting strange drinks.
Better-Turnover2783 − Don’t even accept non a**oholic drinks you don’t see the bartender make. Former friend slipped something in my pineapple juice. Luckily I had backup with me and got home ok but the guy who got the juice was later screaming on the phone I owed him and should have went to his hotel room?!?. Never spoke to that guy again.
TwoBionicknees − When pretty privilege leaves you dumb as a rock. Dude grabs you, red flag, you ignore it. Dude drags you off, red flag, you ignore it, dude tries to ply you with alcohol, massive red flag, you ignore it. Learn quickly or you’ll live to regret it.
AwesomeHorses − NTA, he sounds like he was trying to get you super drunk so that he could take advantage of you. Please be careful in situations like this.
