‘ AITAH for naming my dog after my Ex Wifes boyfriend?’
Basically I got myself a dog after the divorce to fill the space when my kids were with her. We have 50/50 so it got pretty lonely. She took our dog on the divorce. Well I kept trying names on him, hes a good boy but high energy teacup popdle. Like the dog she took.
We ended over a affair she had and still continues with him. So, as you can guess I somehow started calling the dog his name one day as a joke when he was bad. It amused me so much it stuck. Aside from the joke of it all, it has strangely helped me cope?
But holy crap is this pissing off the ex wife. My puppers is a good boy, and we take care of each other. But the dark humor of it just…works for me. Bonus is my kids find it hilarious too, as they are not fans of the homewrecker. So…Aitah?
Here’s what Redditors had to say:
Wrong_Moose_9763 − Too funny, but are you sure your dog deserves to be named after that dog? NTA though
WiseOwlPoker − NTA. You win best post of the night. I love the engery of this post. Just don’t treat the dog like you would your ex’s bf. That’s likely illegal, lol.. Best of luck.
sugarishpookie − NTA. Honestly, that’s some top-tier dark humor, and if it helps you cope, more power to you. As long as the dog doesn’t start answering to “homewrecker,” you’re good.
VeritySkyes − NTA, but you’re definitely walking a thin line between genius and villainy here! Naming your teacup poodle after your ex’s boyfriend because it “just works” for your coping? That’s some spicy passive aggression and I’m kinda here for it.
It’s great that you found a humorous way to deal with the situation and even your kids are on board. Just make sure pupper doesn’t get caught in the crossfire of any ex-spousal drama. Keep focusing on the bond with your dog and the laughs with your kids!
Illustrious-Air-7777 − Go for it. Says the woman who named two piglets after her ex and his new girlfriend as their table manners were similar.
MichelleFascinating − NTA. You’re using humor to cope, and it’s your dog, your rules. If it helps you heal, that’s what matters.
unownpisstaker − NTA My hero
thedeanonymizer − NTA, that’s hilarious
pixie_cats − NTA. Your dog is your companion, and you have the right to name it whatever you like. If your ex-wife is upset, it’s her own problem for having an affair.
Sol-Kutnerr − NTA, it sounds like you’re coping in your own way, and if your kids find it funny, that’s a bonus. It’s not hurting anyone, but I get why it might upset her.
