AITAH for giving my manager diarrhea after eating my lunch?
A young office worker (20F) discovered her lunches were being stolen regularly at work. Frustrated and upset, she decided to lace her meal with a safe dose of laxative to catch the thief.
It turned out her manager was the culprit, and rumors suggest he ended up in the hospital with severe diarrhea. Now, while she feels justified, she’s worried about potential HR repercussions and her job security. read the original story below…
‘ AITAH for giving my manager diarrhea after eating my lunch ?’
I never thought that something I had been prepared to do my whole life would leave me feeling so anxious and scared and guilty. I (20F) recently had trouble with someone stealing my lunch while at work, typical office drama that I never thought would actually happen to me.
I would be less upset if this person was just taking a few pieces but they are eating all my food, drinking all my juice and leaving the dirty, empty container inside the fridge.
I was really upset to the point of crying with rage because I hate it when people touch my food, it’s something I prepared exclusively for myself with the intention of improving my health and bad eating habits but it’s a damn r** that’s enjoying my meals.
So to catch the office r** I spent two weeks starting my plan by telling my close colleagues that I couldn’t go to the bathroom and that I needed some tips. Then I made an appointment with the doctor, not because I was sick, but to have proof in my favor so that HR wouldn’t try to accuse me of anything later.
Just two days ago I put a lot of laxative in my food and juice and I took it to work an and again they ate everything and left the dirty bowl with nothing inside which brought me a small dark happiness.
Today I found out that the little t**ef was our manager thanks to rumors and gossip saying that he was in the hospital due to diarrhea. I don’t know if it’s true that he’s in the hospital because I gave him a safe dose of laxative,
but I’m sure he’ll have a stomach ache for at least two Initially I was happy because this will serve as a lesson, but on the other hand I am very worried about his health. At first I was very angry but now I’m worried that HR will call me in and punish me for this even though I am the victim of the stolen lunch.
On the one hand I feel avenged but I’m afraid of losing my job or that my manager will take revenge on me. I know I might be exaggerating but I really need to know.
Here’s the comments of Reddit users:
VinylHighway − Punish you for him stealing your lunch?
1. You told people you had issues pooping
2. You used medication prescribed to you
3. You didn’t know he’d literally steal your lunch 🙂
throwawayanon387 − NTA, honestly I would bring it to HRs attention first. Support your “digestion problems” with everything you said above, and also mention you’ve been having trouble with someone stealing your lunch lately but this was an action recommended by your doctor to remediate the digestion issues.
That your food was for you and not for your manager who was stealing it. This made me smile as a I hate a t**ef.
ChaoticCrashy − NTAH You have zero to be concerned about. You have documented the fact that you couldn’t poop. You claim to have put a safe dose in YOUR food. You’re not responsible for consequences of thieving. Although you shouldn’t be talking about this- ever.
Agoraphobe961 − NTA. Deny, deny, deny. Ask why he was taking your *medication*, it was labeled as yours. Do not say food t**ef, do not mention a history of food theft. Play dumb, it’s on them to prove it was intentional
TalkinPlant − NTA, but honestly, delete this post. You have it documented, but this is clear evidence that you pre-planned it.
experiment12_8 − “You ate MY SANDWHICH??? MY SANDWHICHH?!!?” -Ross Gellar (also NTA, i love you for this omg)
Decent-Canary3658 − Are you an a**hole for putting laxatives in your own food? No, lol next time put some LSD in there
SilentJoe1986 − So let me get this straight. Not only did your manager steal your food, but also your prescribed medication? Dude, file a complaint with HR before they do. That lunch was what you need to have due to a medical condition. That manager is putting your health at risk by stealing your food.
Thats all you need to do. You didn’t put his health at risk, he’s putting yours at risk by breaking company rules and the law. Ask what are they going to do about one of their managers putting an employees health at risk by stealing their medication. Be agressive about this. It will only make your story more believable. NTA
bunnylove43 − I bet he won’t steal another lunch again. I love that for him
