‘ AITA Wife told a coworker that we would dog sit without talking or asking me about it?’
A husband shared his frustration after his wife agreed to dog sit for her coworker without consulting him first. After working a long 10-hour shift, he came home to find out that the dog might have accidents in their brand-new home—a house they just purchased two months ago for over half a million dollars.
Although he wasn’t thrilled about the arrangement, he kept his response measured. “I told her I wasn’t happy about it but ended the conversation by saying, ‘In the future, I would like to be part of the conversation when making these kinds of decisions.’”
Despite his calm approach, his wife became upset and put him in the doghouse (figuratively). Now, he’s wondering if he was wrong to voice his feelings or if his request was reasonable.

Ornery-Process − NTA- I’d tell your wife that if the dog is not house trained she and the dog need to stay at the friend’s house until they get back.
Sweet_Buy_4908 − One word: CRATE. And when your wife promises not to ever commit to such a drastic change in the dynamic of the house without talking to her mate first, let her out and stick the pissing dog in there. NTA.
ARC2060 − NTA. Maybe suggest she dog sit the dog at the coworkers house. It’s unreasonable for the coworker to expect anyone to host their untrained dog and deal with the mess.
Loquacious555 − I would have been upset if I came home and my spouse told me the guest dog that I wasn’t consulted about was gonna p**s all over the house I’d be pretty pissed off. What you said sounds completely legit and shouldn’t have put her in a mood. Ask her what she would think if the rolls were reversed. NTA. You should have a say.
OnlymyOP − NTA. This is a “two yes” situation as you both bought the home and there are two of you in this relationship.
Tdluxon − NTA. It’s totally reasonable to ask her to check in with you before agreeing to something like dog sitting. Also, when you talk to someone about dog sitting, you should specify whether this is a well trained dog that behaves or one that is going to p**s all over the house… that may affect the other person’s decision.
pixie-ann − NTA and why is the dog going to p**s all over the house? Isn’t it house trained?
Optimus_Primal88 − I mean, sounds like you get to put your feet up while she walks the dog, feeds the dog, and cleans up after it. You didn’t commit to it, why should you lift a damn finger to care for it?
goddammitryan − We keep visiting dogs confined to the hard-floor parts of the house for this very reason. And crate them at night.
darkfire82 − Nta. You’d be well within your rights to leave the dog completely in her hands as well as any cleaning that is needed because of it.
Do you think the husband’s request to be part of future decisions about dog sitting was reasonable, or should he have been more flexible in this situation? How would you handle a situation where a significant decision is made without consulting you?
