‘ AITA for kicking my sister out of my house because she refuses to stop feeding my cat vegan food?’
Okay, buckle up, everyone. I (29M) have a beautiful cat named Whiskers. He’s been my partner in crime for over 8 years, and I love him more than anything in the world. Recently, my sister (25F) moved in with me temporarily while she looked for a new job and apartment because of a rough breakup. No biggie, right? Family helps family.
Here’s the problem: my sister has decided that she is a “cat whisperer” and has taken it upon herself to start feeding Whiskers vegan cat food because she thinks “it’s better for his health and the planet.” First of all, Whiskers is a straight-up carnivore; we all know cats need meat! I’ve told her repeatedly that it’s not healthy for him, and he literally only wants to eat the chicken-flavored treats I buy him.
But she just smirks and tells me I’m “being close-minded.” It got to the point where I caught her sneaking vegan cat food into his bowl while I was in the next room. So, in a fit of rage, I lost it. I told her she had two options: stop this insanity or get out. She chose option two, and now she’s saying I’m heartless for kicking her out over “a cat’s diet.”
I’m FURIOUS that she thinks she knows better than me when it comes to my cat’s health. I mean, she’s literally willing to risk his well-being to push her absurd lifestyle on him! AITA for choosing my cat over my sister?

CarpeCyprinidae − NTA. Cats are obligate carnivores and you did the right thing to protect your pet from malnutrition
Ratchet_gurl24 − But you didn’t kick her out over a ‘cats diet’. She left voluntarily. She repeatedly disrespected your wishes regarding your cat, and accused you of being closed minded. You gave her 2 options. 1# respect your wishes, or 2# get out. She chose the latter, rather than admit to her wrongdoing and stop crossing your boundaries.
ogiddyhearto − yo honestly ur cat comes first here. like what’s up with her thinking whiskers can go vegan? sounds like she needs a reality check. good for u for stickin up for ur boy. family is important but so is keepin your pet healthy.
Critical-Off-Garlic − Just to clarify, I love my sister and have supported her during her tough times, but this isn’t just about a cat! It’s like she’s trying to impose her crazy beliefs on me! Am I really the villain here?
MerryMoose923 − NTA. Vegan diets are not good for cats – they are detrimental to a cat’s health. You gave your sister a choice – follow your rules when it comes to your cat, or get out. She chose to leave, and is now playing the victim. There is no way you are the A H in this situation. And good on you for making sure Whiskers has the best care/life.
lightlysaltedclams − F**king with anyone’s animal should be an immediate “leave my house”. You’re just protecting your cat.
SamuelVimesTrained − She chose to leave.. You actually did not kick her out. But she chooses being a (pathetic) victim because she cannot continue endangering your cats wellbeing…she is an animal abuser.. No mercy!. NTA
garlicheesebread − NTA, and she also needs to quit f**king with your cat’s food without your permission because it’s probably gonna f**k his stomach up.
abominablesnowlady − Ordinarily I am staunchly on the side of people over animals. But in this case NTA! She is essentially poisoning this cat. This has resulted in cats dying!
First-Lengthiness-16 − NTA but why on earth would you expect a vegan to act rationally? There are few places on this planet that a vegan won’t stick their noses into.. Don’t let it back in your house
Do you think the Redditor was justified in choosing to kick out their sister to protect their cat’s health, or did they overreact to a family disagreement? How would you handle a situation where a loved one disagrees with your pet care choices? Share your thoughts below!
