Adam Lambert Dazzled With A Sultry, Jazz-Soaked Rendition Of “Mad About The Boy”

Adam Lambert brought a touch of old Hollywood glamour to Strictly Come Dancing on October 9, 2022, with the live debut of Mad About the Boy. The American Idol alum delivered a stunning jazz-infused performance of the Noel Coward classic, enchanting the audience with his rich vocals and theatrical presence.
His rendition serves as the official theme for an upcoming Noel Coward biopic, set to release next year in honor of the legendary playwright and songwriter’s 50th anniversary. With his signature style and vocal power, Lambert breathed new life into the timeless song, making it his own while paying tribute to Coward’s legacy.
Nikita Kuzmin and Carlos Gu mesmerized the audience with a passionate Argentine Tango, moving effortlessly to every beat. Their chemistry was undeniable, each step executed with precision and intensity.
Meanwhile, the singer commanded attention in a striking tuxedo, his makeup—especially the eye makeup—enhancing the drama of the performance. His vocals carried deep emotion, capturing the raw yearning of unspoken love. Every note, every movement, and every glance created a moment of pure artistry, leaving the crowd spellbound.
“He wrote it about a man and he was never really able to record it because that would have been too taboo for that time,” Adam said about Coward’s creative intent. “So it’s always been a torch song sung by amazing female vocalists. And when they realized, ‘It’s 2022, we’re going to put this film out,’ they came up with the idea of having a guy sing it as it was really intended.”
“When they asked me to do it, I thought, ‘What a cool opportunity…I haven’t really recorded anything that was sort of jazz-leaning before, but it’s something that I always kind of been interested in,” he emphasised.
