A Singer’s Epic Viking Takes On “The Sound Of Silence” Rivals Disturbed’s Version

Peyton Parrish’s rendition of the folk-rock classic The Sound of Silence stands out from the various covers, as it draws inspiration from Disturbed’s unique makeover of the song rather than the original version by Simon and Garfunkel. With Disturbed’s version amassing an impressive 968 million views on YouTube and their dedicated fan base, it is evident that Parrish is a confident artist.

Let’s watch another enchanting version of “The Sound of Silence” by Peyton Parrish in the video below:

Right from the beginning, it appears that Parrish isn’t merely imitating Disturbed. While David Draiman of Disturbed initially sang against a melodic piano background, Parrish introduced a droning element that complements his deep, resonant low-bass interpretation of the opening lines. This contrasts with Draiman’s less growly, more operatic baritone, giving Parrish’s cover a distinct character.

Another notable difference is in the way they build up the song. Disturbed’s version reaches an elaborate orchestral climax, whereas Peyton Parrish achieves a similar impact by relying more on traditional rock instruments.

One viewer captured the tenor of the comments, “If people look at this as an evolution of the track rather than a cover they should appreciate it so much more! Simon & Garfunkel created a masterpiece, Disturbed gave it a raw haunting vibe, you built on it and made it more intense! Each version is epic and unique.”

A Simon and Garfunkel fan expressed one’s admiration, saying, “Disturb did an excellent version that gives me the chills when I hear it. I wasn’t sure what to expect with this version and to be honest when I first started listening I thought there were a few chances to have really gone big with his voice and music. But I wasn’t let down. The further into the song the bigger he became! I almost cried hearing the voice tell me the story that’s in this song that the emotions his voice brought to the song was absolutely stunning!”
