Daniel Emmet Takes On Simon Cowell’s Challenge With “Passera” And The Result Is Unbelievable
In the 2018 season of America’s Got Talent, Daniel Emmet, a gifted classical-crossover singer, took the stage eager to showcase his talent. His plan was to perform a unique original song, blending pop melodies in his own style. However, things took an unexpected turn during the June 19th episode when Simon Cowell, known for his blunt critiques, decided to shake things up.
After hearing only a few lines, Cowell interrupted the performance, halting it abruptly. Without hesitation, he pointed to the exit, signaling the stunned 25-year-old singer to leave the stage.
Simon said this performance lacked energy and gave him a chance to redeem himself, urging him to try something new. “Sing something different,” Simon challenged. When Emmet admitted he didn’t have another song ready, Simon’s frustration was evident. He wasted no time in sending the young man offstage, demanding that he return in an hour to rehearse the Il Divo classic “Passera.”
The nervous amateur returned, unsure of what to expect. But what happened next completely blew everyone in the room away.
The contrast between his two performances was undeniable and immediate. Both songs were in Italian, yet the second performance revealed a transformation. Emmet’s voice was nothing short of powerful, taking the audience by surprise and leaving them in awe. It was a complete shift from his previous attempt.
Heidi was totally stunned, saying, “I think you are insane.” “I think you have ambition. You did incredibly and I really like you,” said Simon. “Your passion and delivery, I really was not expecting that. Perfect!” proclaimed Mel B.
By the time he finished, the crowd wasn’t the only one applauding. Even Simon, known for his critical eye, was on his feet, offering a rare standing ovation.
