Update: I Called the Cops on My Sister After She Stole $2500—Was I Wrong?
OP shared a dramatic update after calling the police on her sister Sara, who stole $2,500. When Sara unexpectedly showed up at OP’s house, OP confronted her and discovered shocking details: Sara spent the stolen money on takeout and drugs with her boyfriend Ryan, planned to steal OP’s handgun for revenge on her former job, and abandoned her son with a friend, Alex.
Recording the entire conversation, OP exposed Sara’s lies and actions. Police were called (likely by concerned neighbors), arrested Sara for an outstanding warrant, and also found Ryan waiting nearby.
OP now plans to help Alex gain custody of Sara’s son, as Sara’s neglect has been evident. Sara’s mother blamed OP, demanding she drop charges, but OP remains firm, stating Sara must face the consequences. read the original story below…

Update: I Called the Cops on My Sister After She Stole $2500—Was I Wrong? ‘
First, thank you all for the support. To anyone blaming me—you can go to hell. Here’s what happened: After working overnight, I crashed on the couch when, around 10:30 AM, someone knocked—it was Sara, looking guilty. I punched her in the face. She tried running, but I dragged her inside.
When I asked where my nephew was, she said he was with her friend Alex. Thank God he was safe because Alex is an angel. I demanded to know where my money went. Sara casually admitted she and her boyfriend Ryan spent it all on DoorDash, eating out, and weed.
My blood boiled. But worse, she wasn’t there for the money—she was looking for my handgun. Ryan had “convinced” her to get revenge on her former employer for firing her. Turns out she got fired for stealing $690 (likely more) with her coworkers.
While she spilled her mess, I recorded everything. Then came the real gut punch: Sara admitted she’d abandoned her son because Ryan “didn’t want him around.” That’s when I snapped. I screamed at her like I’ve never screamed at anyone before. I told her she was a disgrace, a terrible mother, and that I’d help Alex get custody of her son because she didn’t deserve him.
Before I could even call the cops, my neighbors—bless them—already had. Police showed up and Sara tried playing the victim, even lying that I “gave her the money.” I explained everything, including the footage, and they arrested her on the spot. She even tried handing me $24.76 she had in her pocket—like that would fix anything.
But wait, it gets better. When police asked how she got there, she admitted Ryan was “around the corner.” The idiot was asleep in the car, so he got arrested too.I called my dad to update him, and surprisingly, he’s now on my side after some tough love from my aunt.
He agreed Sara needs to face consequences. I also told him I’ll help Alex get custody of my nephew. Alex truly loves that boy, and he’s happiest with her. As for Sara’s mom, she’s furious I won’t drop the charges.
I told her if she’d raised Sara right, none of this would’ve happened. She called me a “bitch” and hung up. I blocked her. She can pay for lawyers if she cares so much. I’ll be at every court hearing, making sure Sara and Ryan stay locked up for as long as possible. They don’t deserve a second chance.
Here’s what Redditors had to say:
Con4America − NTA. Good for you!
aquavenatus − Good for you! You did right for yourself and for your nephew! Good luck with the trial because your sister will be charged for EVERYTHING! And, don’t be surprised to learn your stepmother might go for custody of her grandson (hopefully, she won’t get it)!. UpdateMe!
Bird_Brain4101112 − Sarah is doing more than just weed.
71-lb − Child n**lect /abandonmen charges too. I hope. Also hope you get alex custody of nephew. Hugs to you & you handled it perfectly.. NTA. Updateme
GCU_ZeroCredibility − Wait, am I understanding this right and the sister wanted to steal his handgun in order to commit _armed robbery_? And that’s the least bad interpretation? What the f**k?
StellaBellaa_ − Yikes, what a rollercoaster! Seriously, NTA. You’ve managed to juggle everything from family drama to police drama like a pro. It’s wild that Sara tried playing the victim after all that chaos.
Good on you for sticking to your guns and protecting your nephew. Sending you all the support for those court dates – you’re going to need a gallon of coffee and the patience of a saint!
Short-Classroom2559 − Wtf would she have done with the gun if she had found it? This woman is an i**ot and needs to sit her ass in jail for a long time.
Make sure you get an attorney also. You can sue in civil court for restitution.
71-lb − Is there a way to charge her with n**lect and a**ndonment of alex.. Edit meant to say nephew
Warm-Bison-542 − I knew you wouldn’t get your money back, and i am so sorry. but I am glad that she is admitting to everything. She has made a series of bad choices. But Ryan encouraging her to use your gun to go back to her old job is terrifying.. I am glad they are both locked up.
Equal-Brilliant2640 − Fun fact, depending on where you live, you can’t get the charges dropped once the state/police/whomever file them. That is not your call, it’s their call.
And even if you could get them dropped, there seems to be a bunch of other crimes they are being charged with as well. Time to go no contact with some of your family I think. And I’m glad your dad pulled his head out of his ass and smarted up
