Father-Daughter Wedding Dance Goes Viral With An Incredible Mashup
Wedding videos often capture moments filled with joy, laughter, and unforgettable performances. Whether it’s a spontaneous dance or a heartfelt song, these high-energy moments make them a cherished part of the memories that last a lifetime.
In October 2016, Mikayla and Cody Phillips from Utah made their wedding day more memorable by breaking tradition with a dance that quickly went viral, gaining nearly 42 million views on YouTube.
Mikayla, a trained dancer, and Cody, who met his future bride as dance partners at Brigham Young University’s International Folk Dance Ensemble, turned their big day into a performance that would forever leave its mark on the internet.
Mikayla had planned for her 400 guests at her wedding, enlisting her dad, Nathan Ellison, for an exciting twist. Instead of a traditional father-daughter dance, Mikayla and Nathan blew everyone away with a high-energy, four-minute mash-up of Top 40 hits. They mixed slick choreography and modern moves that made all guests so excited.
At first, Mikayla and Nathan’s daddy-daughter dance seemed sweet and slow as they swayed to Bob Carlisle’s “Butterfly Kisses.” But in an instant, the mood shifted as MC Hammer’s “U Can’t Touch This” blared, and the pair, sporting matching sunglasses, busted out some wild disco moves.
The crowd went wild as they nailed synchronized moves, including the “running man,” and when the music changed again to “Apache (Jump On It),” they took it up a notch with crazy cowboy and Gangnam-style dances.
The fun didn’t stop there, as the song jumped to LMFAO’s “Party Rock Anthem,” filled with hilarious arm waves and street dances. Mikayla and Nathan even mixed in Bollywood steps, Tom Jones lip-syncing, and a jaw-dropping drop to “Dessert” by Dawin.
Despite a little mishap with Mikayla’s veil, it was Nathan who truly stole the spotlight, showing off dance moves that would make any professional jealous.
