AITA for giving a t**ef diarrhea?
A Redditor (24M) who works as an intern at a hospital had his lunch stolen repeatedly over the past three months. After losing everything from his lunchbox one too many times, he decided to take action by lacing his food with laxatives. Expecting a certain colleague to fall victim, the user was shocked when it was actually his boss, who makes a significant salary, that ended up with severe stomach issues. Now, he’s wondering if he went too far in his attempt to stop the theft. Read the full story below.
‘ AITA for giving a t**ef diarrhea?’
I (24M) do an internship at a general hospital and I always bring my own lunch box because interns are not allowed to eat hospital food for lunch, which is fine with me. However, in the last three months, my lunch box has been stolen. Something always goes missing, sometimes just the fruit, sometimes the juice, and many other times the meat.
This last week, the t**ef felt free to steal everything, so at lunchtime when I went to eat there was nothing, but when I say nothing, I mean exactly nothing. Even the containers in my lunch box are gone. So I was inspired by a story I saw on the internet and decided to give my lunchbox a name. I thought about it and decided to take a really tasty snack.
I bought the most expensive pudding in town and purposely left the packaging with the bakery’s logo on it. I used a syringe to fill the pudding with laxatives, and I also put laxatives in the food and juice. I imagined the pudding was gone, my food was all mixed up and my juice had also disappeared. I was happy. Obviously, my plan would work.
I had suspicions about a nurse who apparently doesn’t like me very much and always criticizes me. However, I watched him during the day and he didn’t show up in any pain. I felt very guilty for accusing the innocent man, because it was only in my head.
But the craziest thing about all this happened: my boss, a guy who earns more than R$15,000 a month, showed up with a terrible stomachache and had to leave. In other words, this huge scoundrel was stealing food from a poor intern. I will never discuss this matter with anyone, I hope they don’t ask me anything, because I need this internship and the pittance they pay me.. I am the a**hole for this?
Here’s what people had to say to OP:
Ambitious_Display845 − NTA, but your bosses’ a**hole must have been busy.
Agoraphobe961 − NTA. The guy FAFO. Remember though: Deny, deny, deny. “Food tampering” even if it’s your own is a felony. Super, duper spicy food is harder to claim that it was spiked, you just like spice.
2dogslife − NEVER admit what you did to ANYONE beyond your anonymous reddit posting.. It can be illegal in some places. However, hopefully the t**ef will learn his lesson. If not, reconsider your lunches and try to bring things that don’t need refrigeration (I used to brown bag it in college and would bring things like cheese sandwiches or PBJ or cream cheese and olive, fruit, a juice box or water, bag of chips). Then you can lock your lunch in your locker.
Stunning_Cupcake_260 − Good for you. Over 20 years ago I tainted my lunch with laxatives or like a month. Same person every day. After a month my lunches stopped being taken from the staff fridge. I never had an issue since and never told anyone until now.
FasterThanNewts − Delete this post. You don’t want this coming back to you. NTA
Celestial_MoonDragon − Nope, not the a**hole. Fucker got what he deserved.
PrairieGrrl5263 − NTA. Say nothing. Ever. Don’t stop either.
Caspian4136 − NTA. Revenge is a dish best served….poopily lol
shyyyprincess − NTA. You were just trying to protect your lunch from a t**ef. And let’s be honest, karma came back around and gave the t**ef a case of explosive diarrhea, which ultimately benefits the rest of the staff. Plus, with the high cost of living and low pay as an intern, you deserve to have your own food without worrying about it being stolen. Keep your head held high and enjoy your next lunch, t**ef-free.
Cybermagetx − Nta. But delete this and deny anything and everything.
Did the user cross the line by giving his lunch thief a taste of their own medicine, or was it justified given the repeated theft? How would you react if someone was consistently stealing your food at work? Let us know your thoughts in the comments!
