Senior Choir’s Emotional Performance Of “Fix You” Leaves Audience In Tears

Have you heard of The Young@Heart chorus? This group, based in Western Massachusetts, is known for their unique covers of rock, punk, and modern pop songs. The members, aged 70 to 90, come from diverse backgrounds—some with professional theater or music experience, others on the amateur level, and a few who only started performing after turning 80.

The old man in the video below is Fred Knittle, a part of The Young@Heart. He sang “Fix You” by Coldplay that touched millions of hearts. Notably, it was in a scene from the film “Young@Heart”.

Fred stepped onto the stage to a warm welcome from the audience. He sat down in front of the microphone, and as his voice filled the room, everyone fell silent. It was clear he wasn’t in the best of health, but his deeply emotional singing moved both the young and old in the crowd.

Supporting this remarkable performance were other seniors who hummed along with the melody, their voices blending beautifully with his.

Fred’s passing is a great loss, but his unforgettable performance leaves us with a lasting memory. It serves as a powerful reminder that age is just a number. His heartfelt singing brought many to tears, both in the room and online, melting hearts and inspiring all who witnessed it.

One commented, “This is one of the most beautiful things I’ve ever seen. When I think about the context of it, it’s so amazing. Here’s a man close to dying in between his notes that he’s singing, an oxygen tank is feeding him air. The whole “Fix you” song is symbolic to the human spirit.”
