Remember Monday, originally known as Houston, embarked on their musical journey with a few releases under their initial name. However, they soon discovered the name Houston was quite common in the music world. As a British country pop trio, Lauren, Holly-Anne, and Charlotte perhaps didn’t anticipate the crowded field that shared the same moniker.
The group opted for a name change to Remember Monday, inspired by their tradition of dedicating Mondays to spending time together, be it for outings or simply to enjoy some music and relaxation. 2018 saw the release of their debut single, marking the beginning of a new chapter.
During the lockdown, the trio turned to TikTok to share their vocal harmonies, often recording in car parks. One of their renditions, “Fat Bottom Girls,” unexpectedly captured the hearts of many, including the legendary Brian May from Queen himself. Upon discovering the intriguing cover, May shared their video on Instagram, compelling them to produce a full-length version. This version amassed over 2.6 million views on YouTube, with the original TikTok clip reaching double the numbers.
While their vibrant cover of “Fat Bottom Girls” showcases Remember Monday’s versatility and sense of fun, it’s a departure from their usual focus on original music. Notably, they often choose to perform an original track over a cover, like how they performed their original “Jailbreaker” instead during their 2019 UK X Factor journey. February 2023 saw the release of their debut EP “Hysterical Women,” featuring “Nothing Nice To Say” as its lead single, further establishing their commitment to crafting their own musical path.
It is reported that Jennifer Hudson, the trio’s coach on The Voice, contributed to funding their music video. That same year, they clinched the title of Best Group at the British Country Music Awards. Their single “Nothing Nice To Say” and the EP “Hysterical Women” have been met with acclaim, drawing comparisons to the likes of Destiny’s Child and Carrie Underwood for their vibrant feminist country pop sound, and his widely considered “a tremendous achievement” by many headlines.
The bond between Lauren, Holly, and Charlotte, forged back in 2012 at Farnborough College, has only strengthened over time, leading to significant milestones post-pandemic. Their accomplishments include supporting Billy Joel, performing at the C2C Festival, and a sold-out show in London, proving their flourishing musical partnership.
Interestingly, music isn’t the trio’s sole pursuit. Lauren Byrne shines as Miss Honey in Matilda in the West End, having previously starred in notable productions. Holly-Anne Hull captivates audiences as Christine Daaé in The Phantom of the Opera. Meanwhile, Charlotte Steele combines her passion for music with education and choreography, serving as Deputy Head at Artemis College.
