1889 Ora Pelton House With Unique Woodwork And Victorian Charm In Elgin

The Ora Pelton House, also known as the Izzo-Pelton House, is located at 214 S. State Street in Elgin, Illinois.

This Victorian 3-storey house was built in 1889 for Dr. Ora A. Pelton, a respected physician and surgeon.

It is the only house still standing on what was once a wealthy street along the Fox River.

The Ora Pelton House was designed by local architect Gilbert M. Turnbull.

It boasts the Stick-Eastlake style, a subset of Queen Anne architecture.

The house features intricate woodwork, characteristic of the Eastlake Movement, with detailed porch columns and a charming second-floor balcony.

The house has had only two owners since its construction: the Pelton family, who lived there until 1955, and the Izzo family, who own it to this day.

In 1982, the house was recognized for its architectural significance and added to the National Register of Historic Places.

The Victorian house offers spacious living with 8 bedrooms, 3 full bathrooms, 2 half bathrooms, and 3 fireplaces.
