When The Golden Girls Sing “Mr. Sandman,” Dorothy’s Touch Creates An Iconic Scene

The Golden Girls has brought laughter and happiness to fans for years, thanks to its sharp humor and memorable characters. From the show’s timeless jokes to its heartwarming moments, it’s no wonder it continues to be a favorite across generations.

Each episode, filled with sharp dialogue and genuine friendship, has left an indelible mark on TV history. While much has changed over the years, Golden Girls reminds us of the power of friendship and humor.

One standout moment aired in the 1989 Season 5, Episode 7, titled “Not Another Monday.” In this episode, the girls find themselves babysitting for a young couple while they enjoy a getaway in the woods. The baby, though adorable, just won’t settle down.

Everyone, especially a Grandma, knows how hard it is to get a newborn to sleep. As the scene unfolds, Dorothy, Blanche, and Rose start humming and softly singing Mr. Sandman, hoping the gentle tune will lull the little one to sleep.

The scene starts with the girls struggling to soothe a restless baby by singing, and after several tries, they finally get the little one to sleep. As the girls quietly move across the room, they freeze when the baby wakes the second they stop.

Without missing a beat, the trio launches into another round of singing, adding in some unplanned, yet perfectly synchronized dance moves. Just as they’re starting to feel the rhythm, Sophia walks in, shaking her head in disapproval, bluntly telling them how awful they sound. It’s one of those unforgettable moments that made The Golden Girls so beloved.
